What changed, in Alex’s words

“That was taking me literally an hour of work per new client, and now it's just done automatically in seconds.”

Each new client meant an hour of setup

Shredded Growth is a marketing agency. Every new client set off the same setup work: adding people to Slack, posting and pinning a message there, creating the Google Docs and building the Google Drive folders. The owner, Alex Penunuri, spent about an hour on it for each new client.

The approach: automate onboarding and its side steps

We mapped the onboarding process and automated it in the tools Shredded Growth already used, Zapier and Make, combining the two where that worked better. Automating only the main steps would have left the surrounding tasks manual, so we automated the sub-processes around it as well.

After launch we checked that each automation worked as intended, instead of handing it over and moving on.

What we built for Shredded Growth

  • An automated onboarding process: Slack access, a pinned Slack message, and Google Docs and Drive folders for each new client.
  • Automated sub-processes alongside the main onboarding, one of which Shredded Growth now also uses for other work.
